What is the difference between HDX and FDX-B electronic ear tags?

ARDES electronic ear tags are available in “Half-Duplex” (HDX) and in “Full-Duplex” (FDX-B). HDX and FDX-B electronic ear tags’ performances are different. Thanks to the HDX ear tag, the reading distance, with a fixed or portable reader, will be more important. However, the initial cost for FDX-B ear tag is lower.

What are the advantages to use electronic ear tags?

The utilisation of electronic ear tags allows many practical applications to maximize performance and profitability of livestock. For more information, consult the RFID explicative documents.

How to tag properly animals?

It is very important to place properly the ear tag on the animal’s ear. Please refer to our reference guide to tag Cattle, Sheep, Goat and Swine.

How ARDES’ products are packaged?

ARDES ear tags are sold by using either plastic bags or honeycombs. Syringes and drenchers are always sold with packing into a blister or in an individual plastic bag but can also be delivered in bulk. All our products are packed into cardboards.

What is ICAR certification for electronic ear tags?

The International Committee for Animal Recording (ICAR) has established international standards, ISO 11784 and ISO 11785, so as to standardize the electronic animal’s traceability at an international scale. The ICAR certification involves technical tests in approved laboratories. The ARDES electronic eartags are ICAR certified to guarantee compliance with international rules.

How to mark identification ear tags?

To mark identification ear tags, ARDES proposes 4 solutions to suit to all needs. Consult marking’s solutions page for more information.

Identification Solutions
What is the retention rate?

The retention rate is a specific identification of the ear tags’ characteristic. The higher the rate, the more the ear tags will stay on the animal’s ear.

What is a female and male visual ear tag?

Visual ear tags are composed of two parts: the female and the male ear tag.

Thereafter, both are assembled in the animal’s ear, in order to make a resistant combination to the breaking. All ARDES’ female ear tags match to ARDES’ male ear tags. However, we propose adapted ear tags’ couples for identification needs.

Can we tag ARDES’ ear tags with all applicators from the market?

Yes, ARDES’ identification ear tags were developed to be tagged with most applicators from the market. However, it is advised, for an optimum tagging, to use ARDES’ applicators.

How ARDES’ products are packaged?

ARDES ear tags are sold by using either plastic bags or honeycombs. Syringes and drenchers are always sold with packing into a blister or in an individual plastic bag but can also be delivered in bulk. All our products are packed into cardboards.

Why female visual ear tags are tamperproof or non-tamperproof?

The tamperproof (=inviolable) ear tag cannot be reusable. These inviolable ear tags are used for the official identification. ARDES suits to governments’ calls for tender presenting this type of ear tag.

The non-tamperproof ones allow the ear tag’s reusability once the male ear tag is cut. Some breeders reuse the same ear tag in order to tag another animal. The non-tamperproof are also called non-inviolable (No-Tamperproof).

Why male visual ear tags with metal tip (MT) or plastic tip (PT)?

Male ear tags, with a metal tip, make a precise and a clear incision on the animal’s ear, guaranteeing a durable and reliable identification. Male ear tags with a plastic pin are less expensive than metal tips. The tagging requires more strength. However, the swines’ tagging is not recommended with the plastic tip, because swines’ ear cartilage is very resistant.

Injection materials
Are ARDES’ syringes reusable?

Yes, they are especially conceived to withstand time and intensive utilisation.

What does ‘’cc’’ mean for syringes?

It is the cubic centimetre abbreviation. A cubic centimetre is equivalent to a millilitre.

How to keep ARDES’ syringes in good condition?

The maintenance is facilitated thanks to the possibility to dismantle entirely the syringe. The syringe’s maintenance allows an optimum utilization and permits to extend its lifespan. For more information concerning the maintenance, you can refer to our ‘’User guide’’.

What volume syringe to choose?

The syringe’s size depends on the animal’s size and the product to inject. It is advised to adapt the syringe according to the injection’s volume to allow an injection with a highest precision.

Do ARDES syringes match to all needles?

Yes, the Luer Lock connector has an international standard. Thus reusable and disposable needles are compatible with all ARDES’ syringes.

How to use adjustable syringes?

When the syringe is filled, turn the locking nut until the desired injection volume, indicated by the brass rod.

For example, to inject 15cc while the capacity for a syringe is 20cc, adjust the locking nut at 15cc, then it will leave 5cc in the syringe after the injection.

The o-ring from the drencher or the syringe is worn-out, where to find a spare o-ring?

After several utilizations, the o-ring can be worn-out. To change it, contact ARDES.

How to regulate the dose of our drenchers?

By turning the drencher’s handle, you can precisely regulate the dose by aligning the piston facing to the graduation indicated on the barrel. The adjustment is made just one time before the utilisation.
